Family Owned & Operated Hospice and In-Home Care.
About Us:
Welcome to Blue Bonnet Palliative Care, where compassion and small-town care meet exceptional expertise. Founded by Colleen and Scott Ritter in 2011, our family-owned and operated hospice is rooted in the heart of Wimberley, TX, and dedicated to providing personalized, compassionate care for patients and their families during life’s most tender moments.
Our Story:
For over 25 years, Colleen Ritter has been a dedicated hospice nurse, bringing comfort and care to patients and families. After years of working for larger organizations, Colleen realized there was a better way to serve her community. In 2011, she and her husband Scott started Blue Bonnet Palliative Care, combining her extensive experience with a vision to deliver care that reflects the values of empathy, dignity, and a small-town personal touch.
Together with an amazing staff and three children, Jake, Kaleigh, and Bridget, the Ritters have built a family-operated hospice that feels like home. Each team member contributes to ensuring every patient and their loved ones receive the care and attention they deserve.
How we help
Step #1.
Call and Schedule a Family Meeting.
First and foremost, we listen. A member of our staff is available 24/7, ensuring immediate assistance without the interference of an answering service. We want to hear from you and pair you with the right resources, whether that includes our services or not.
Step #2.
Family Meeting.
We will meet with you in person or over the phone to discuss your family’s needs. Then, we will assess and craft a personalized care plan. Patient wishes are paramount, and we honor them with unwavering respect. Limiting our census ensures that each patient receives the personal attention they deserve.
Step #3
Begin Care.
Based on the personalized care plan, care can start right away. Our dedicated team includes:
Supervision by a Medical Director
Director of Nursing with 30+ years of hospice experience that you will have direct access to.
Registered Nurse Care Managers.
Guidance and emotional support from our Social Workers.
Spiritual Counseling and support from our Chaplains.
Certified nurse aides providing attentive hygiene care
Respite care to provide relief for caregivers.
Access to essential Medical Equipment, supplies, and medications.

We provide Hospice care at no cost to the patient. For those over the age of 65 and have Medicare benefits, hospice is 100% covered. At Blue Bonnet, we also accept Medicaid and most commercial insurances.
Over the past 10+ years, we have provided over $500,000 worth of care to people who do not have a way of funding care.

If you are being discharged from the hospital with a Hospice order or are Hospice eligible, please give us a call. We can work with your hospital case manager to arrange transport home, have medical equipment delivered and a nurse ready to evaluate once you get home.
-
Respite Care allows for us to provide extra care to a patient to give relief to a caregiver. Whether you are a caregiver that needs extra assistance, need time to run errands or need to leave town for a few days, we can arrange extra help!
We understand the critical service caregivers provide their loved ones, and we are here to help lighten the load and help in any way that we can.

When a patient is on Hopsice with us, we will provide essential medical equipment and supplies. During our “family meeting” we will access what items you need and arrange to have them delivered promptly.
